Specifications
Doors shall be 847 type as manufactured by CURRIES of Mason City, Iowa, and shall comply with specifications defined herein for Commercial Security Hollow Metal Doors and Frames. Doors shall have passed performance criteria set forth by nationally recognized standards such as HMMA 862-87.
The door system shall meet minimum jamb/wall stiffness test with a maximum increase in lock to strike spacing 1/2" (13) at 4,950 lbs. (2245 kg.) jamb spread force. Upon completion of the test the door must open from the outside. The door impact test shall subject the door to two impacts each of 59 (8), 89 (12), 118 (16), and 148 (20) ft./lbs. (kg./m.) impact energy levels. The door must not be forced open at any energy level. The glazing panel impact test shall subject the glazing panel to ten impacts at an energy level of 74 ft./lbs. (10 kg./m.) per impact. Following the impact test of the glazing panel, there shall be no possibility of opening the door. Removable glazing stops are to be 18 gauge concealed type. Doors shall be 1-3/4" thick and reinforced with 18 gauge stiffeners (16 or 14 gauge optional) welded to each face skin 4" (102) on center spot welds 4" (102) on center the full height of the door. The stiffener ends are to be welded together the full width of the supporting web span at the top and the bottom of the door. The standard core shall be insulating and sound-deadening 1 lb. (.5 kg.) density fiberglass insulation. Doors shall have continuous 14 gauge lock channel reinforcing and a 12 gauge continuous hinge channel reinforcing.
The top of the door shall be closed flush with 16 gauge channels welded in place to a 16 gauge top channel. Hinge pads shall be an intergral extrusion in the 12 gauge channel. Face skins of the door shall be 14 gauge steel, as specified, welded on 12" (305) centers to the perimeter channels. The meeting edges of the skins shall have an exposed hairline seam the entire length of the door (847S) edge. Doors are to be beveled [1/8" (3) in 2" (51)] on both the hinge edge and lock edge of the door. Single doors equiped with appropriate hardware may be fire rated for a maximum of 3 hours.
